Balancing business and family:
1. Make sure to spend at least one hour per day with your family
Even if you have pressing business commitments and are tempted to spend the entirety of your evenings on your smartphone reading work-related emails, it’s well worth taking time out to spend at least one hour per day with your family. Especially if you have young kids or teenagers who require your time and attention.
By making a habit of spending an hour with your family every single day, you’ll show your family that they are a priority in your life and that you value the relationship which you share with every family member.
However, don’t feel bad if the hour which you spend with your family, is at a different time each day, as long as you spend an hour with your family before they head to sleep!
2. Make sure to enjoy at least one family vacation each year
In order to make sure that you bond with your family members and create lasting memories as a family, make sure to book at least one family vacation each year. It doesn’t matter if you decide to go on an overseas trip or on a local camping trip as long as you make the effort to spend time away from home, with your family.
You’ll score extra brownie points with your family members if you plan your trip together so that each family member becomes excited about your upcoming trip and gets to pick some of your family activities.
3. Turn up to your kid’s special events
Make sure to turn up to your kid’s big events such as their dance or music recitals and end of season sports matches. As you’ll make your kids’ days if you turn up to the events which are important to them.
4. Get up an hour earlier in order to get extra work done before your family wakes up
In order to increase your chances of freeing up time in your evenings to spend with family, it’s well worth getting up an hour earlier each day in order to get a head start on your working day.
5. Set up a fully functional home office
Instead of staying at your office till it gets dark if you set up a fully functioning home office, you’ll have the option of arriving home before the sun goes down. As you’ll be able to finish the extra work which you have left in the comfort of your own home and will be home when your children get home from school.
You may even find that you’re able to be more productive by switching up locations from your office to your home office as if you stay in the same place for too long, you’ll start to become bored and unproductive.
